A Disappearing 16-Patch Quilt... featuring Blooms at Dusk
The Blooms at Dusk Expressions Batiks from Riley Blake Designs is full of subtle texture and tonal variety, perfect for a quilt that plays with light and contrast. I started by cutting 5 1/2" squares from the collection, alternating black, white, and gray for a bold but elegant layout.

Turning Squares Into Magic
Once the squares were sewn into a 16-patch, the transformation began by cutting, rotating, and reassembling. That simple checkerboard evolved into a dynamic, shifting pattern that really lets the Blooms at Dusk fabrics shine. Each square shows off the batik’s movement and depth, giving the quilt playful rhythm without relying on bright colors.

Your Turn at the Cutting Table
Curious about batiks? This disappearing 16-patch is a perfect place to experiment. Pick your favorite prints from the Blooms at Dusk Expressions Batiks, cut some squares, sew, rotate, sew again, and see how a small twist can breathe new life into a classic block.
