Beary Bunch Quilt… the cover version
Before there was a pastel version. Before a single bear was shrunk down to baby size.
There was this bold bunch… stitched on black backgrounds and bursting with color, full of personality, punch, and just the right amount of moody charm.
The cover version of my newest design, Beary Bunch Quilt Pattern, lovingly called the Moody Version, was the first sample sewn and the original spark behind the pattern. It's graphic. It's playful. And it makes zero apologies for showing off.

This version leans into contrast, expressive bear faces, and an unapologetically vibrant color palette. Every bear pops against a black background, but not just any black. These backgrounds pop with small-scale prints from Ruby Star Society fabrics that bring just enough texture and color to keep things interesting without stealing the show.
Inspired by Gummy Bears with Attitude
Sketched back in May of 2023, the Beary Bunch Quilt Pattern started as a fun nod to gummy bears, those sweet, squishy treats from childhood, but quickly evolved into something a little more expressive. This version isn’t soft or subtle. It’s vibrant, confident, and full of personality... just like the bursting flavors of gummy bears.
Each bear is pieced from a curated mix of Ruby Star Society fabrics pulled from several collections. These bears don’t just wear color, they wear attitude. You’ll spot prints like:
- Teddy & the Bears – Rockstar Light Berry
- Moonglow – Add It Up Plum
- Pivot – Double Dots in Turquoise, Goldenrod, and Florida
- Meadow Star – Mini Dots in Warm Red
And in the middle of all that color? A single Love Bear, made from Juicy Hearts in Sorbet, a little pink-hearted pop of sweetness among the bold.

The black background fabrics are just as fun and full of personality. These bears are set against an eclectic mix of:
- Darlings 2 – Nanners Black
- Teddy & the Bears – Electric Black
- Tiny Frights – Tossed Candy Black
- Adorn – Puzzling Black
- Birthday – Hats Black
- Birthday – Pom Dots Black
These prints are what make this quilt moody, not monotone. They create a rich, layered backdrop that echoes the colors in the bears while keeping the whole quilt feeling cohesive and dynamic.

The Bear Blocks
This version of the Beary Bunch Quilt Pattern features mostly the Original Bear Block, with its sweet squared-off paws and expressive face. It uses traditional piecing and comes together in a rhythmic layout that’s incredibly satisfying to sew.
Each bear gets its own moment, framed by high-contrast color choices and playful pattern combinations. It’s like a bag of gummy bears, each one with their own fabric-flavored flair.
This version finishes at a large throw size, perfect for couch cuddles, weekend naps, or snuggling under to rewatch your comfort movie… with a pile of gummy bears and zero regrets.

A Quilt With Mood
There’s a playful boldness to this version, like a black licorice sneaking into a bag of sweet gummy bears. Unapologetically moody, totally lovable, and impossible to ignore.
This quilt came together as a reminder that playful doesn’t have to mean pastel. That even darker, more dramatic palettes can feel lighthearted when stitched with intention. From the vibrant bear faces to the layered mix of small-scale prints, every choice in this version reflects a love of color, contrast, and just a pinch of attitude.
The moody version of the Beary Bunch Quilt Pattern has a different kind of charm… less bubblegum, more bold bite and we’re here for it.
