Introducing Mister Beary Frankie... from the Beary Bunch Block Series

Some Halloween characters are meant to be scary, but others are really just waiting for someone to fill their candy bucket.

That’s Mister Beary Frankie. With his monster-inspired look and jack-o'-lantern candy bucket, he may seem a little frightful at first, but I think he’s much more interested in collecting treats than causing any real fright.

Meet Mister Beary Frankie

Frightfully fun and stitched together for Halloween, Mister Beary Frankie is the second of September’s two new additions to the Beary Bunch Block Series.

With his tousled monster hair, signature stitches, bolts, and jack-o'-lantern candy bucket in hand, he has all the makings of a classic Halloween monster... with a playful Beary Bunch twist. And while his expression might suggest otherwise, I have a feeling he’s much more interested in collecting treats than handing out tricks.

For his expression, I used the optional grumpy face from the original Beary Bunch Quilt Pattern, along with the original bear feet. That little grumpy face felt especially fitting for Frankie and gives him just enough monster attitude while keeping that familiar Beary Bunch personality.

A Monstrously Fun Color Story

There was really only one direction to go with Mister Beary Frankie... green!

His bear fabrics combine Wasabi with Pesto highlights for a bright monster-inspired pairing. Pitch Black creates his tousled hair, while Zucchini adds the stitched details across his face. His bolts are Cobblestone, bringing in just the right touch of gray.

Then comes his jack-o'-lantern candy bucket. Riley Orange gives it that classic Halloween color, with a Brownie handle and a little Rose candy peeking out from inside. Behind it all, Majesty adds a rich purple background that lets those monster greens and Halloween accents pop.

Mister Beary Frankie, Riley Blake Designs Confetti Cottons:

  • Bear Highlight — Pesto
  • Bear — Wasabi
  • Accent A — Cobblestone
  • Accent B — Zucchini
  • Accent C — Pitch Black
  • Accent D — Riley Orange
  • Accent E — Rose
  • Accent F — Brownie
  • Background — Majesty

Green, purple, orange, and black bring in those familiar Halloween colors, while the smaller pops of gray, brown, and pink add a few unexpected details to his frightfully fun look.

In the Details

Mister Beary Frankie is traditionally pieced and the stitch and flip method to create his Halloween details.

His monster-inspired features were such a fun opportunity to play with the familiar Beary Bunch silhouette. From the jagged edges of his Pitch Black hair to the little Cobblestone bolts and Zucchini stitches, each detail helps transform this familiar bear into Frankie.

And, of course, he needed somewhere to keep the really important stuff... Halloween candy! His jack-o'-lantern bucket adds another playful detail and a bright pop of Riley Orange.

The finished block measures 20" x 35", just like the other Beary Pals, so he can be displayed on his own or mixed and matched with other blocks from the series.

A Spellbinding Halloween Pair

Mister Beary Frankie isn't celebrating spooky season alone.

His September companion, Lady Beary Hocus, has already swept in with her wonky witchy hat, broomstick, and a little Halloween hocus pocus of her own.

Together, Lady Beary Hocus and Mister Beary Frankie make a frightfully fun pair filled with classic Halloween inspiration, playful details, and plenty of Beary Bunch personality.
