Nothin' Like Texas Quilt coming soon... featuring Friendship Florals

There’s just something about Texas, that us Texans hold near and dear. They might be different for each individual but being born and raised in Texas, there are certain things I look forward to each year.

Howdy y’all, I’m honored to be able to share my latest make and future quilt pattern. I had the privilege of working with the Friendship Florals collection by Diane Labombarbe. This collection embodies the spirit of Texas, the “Friendship State”, especially at Spring time.

Details about the Friendship Florals collection

The Friendship Florals collection represents the Lone Star State’s, state butterfly, flower and another flower associated by the state through song.

Around late March to early April these undeniably purplish-blue sunbonnet shaped flowers with white tops blanket fields and dot the highways. Known as the Texas Bluebonnet this iconic flower is beautifully presented on two prints with three color ways each within the Friendship Florals collection.

Along with the pretty Texas Bluebonnet prints are two finely detailed monarch butterfly prints. One print showcases the natural beauty of the orange monarch wings contrasted nicely against three different shades of blue. And, the other print is a crisp outlined illustration of the monarch butterflies details.

Monarch’s happen to grace Texas twice a year, once in spring and again in the fall as they migrate back into Mexico for winter. While migrating monarchs often cluster together in large groups on trees to stay warm. Having observed thousands of monarchs roosting in the trees, when I was young, it is quite mesmerizing.

In addition to the exquisite blues within the Friendship Florals collection, there are also pops of yellows and greens. The yellow is most prominently featured as a rose, which symbolizes friendship, and is best known from the song titled “The Yellow Rose of Texas”.

Lastly, to round out the Friendship Florals collection is some classic small scale gingham prints, in yellow, green and blue.

Nothin’ Like Texas Quilt Details

Working on the Nothin’ Like Texas Quilt Pattern was been a challenge, to say the least. Getting that iconic Texas shape down is highly important to me!

Once I figured out the shape, scale and piecing. I discovered that I could split the Texas into three segments that would similarly represent the Flag of Texas. This allowed for the fabric to be mixed and matched, creating a random block effect.
