I’m so excited to finally share the Smashing Petals Quilt Pattern... a bold, bloom-filled design that’s equal parts playful and polished.

From Petal to Pattern

This design grew out of a single block I had originally created for my Flitter Flutter Quilt Pattern. That block always stuck with me... it had a quiet charm, but I kept imagining it in a bolder setting. So I started experimenting. I played with color, tweaked the background, and repeated the block in a tighter grid. Bit by bit, it transformed into something new: a four-petaled flower with presence and rhythm, arranged on-point for extra movement and visual pull.

What started as a simple idea became something so much more dynamic. Smashing Petals feels like a floral burst—clean lines, graphic repetition, and so much room to play with color.

Warm pinks, pumpkin oranges, and creamy white give this one a cozy, 1960s loft vibe. It feels vintage and modern all at once.

Playful prints in yellow, pink, and orange bring a personality-packed punch. Every flower feels like it has its own little story to tell. The background adds lightness and movement, while the vibrant petals keep your eye bouncing across the quilt.

And the backing? It’s Seeds in Summer Sky from the Flowerland collection—a cool, breezy blue that offers the perfect contrast and adds just the right amount of calm to this color-forward quilt.

Cool, crisp, and totally refreshing. This version leans into the modern side with a mix of Sweet Mint and Poseidon for the backgrounds, paired with vibrant floral solids—all from Riley Blake Designs Confetti Cottons. The color contrast creates a sleek, graphic effect, and the subtle shift between background shades adds depth and movement across the quilt top.
