I’m so excited to finally share this playful and vibrant version of my Smashing Petals Quilt Pattern, brought to life with the exquisite charm of Ruby Star Society fabrics! This one feels like a walk through a technicolor garden, each flower has its own little personality, thanks to a mix of orange, pink, and yellow prints pulled from across the wide and wonderful range of RSS designs.

I really leaned into the scrappy vibe for the petals, mixing and matching my way through cheerful prints that bounce off each other with joyful energy. It’s floral, funky, and just the right amount of retro. The different oranges, pinks, and yellows play so nicely together—like a garden blooming row by row across the quilt top.

A Background That Pops (Literally!)

To set off those bold blooms, I used two standout background prints by Melody Miller: Daisy Chain in Verdant from the Carousel collection and Pops in Frost from Eye Candy. These fabrics add the perfect touch of whimsy and texture—Daisy Chain brings a vintage wallpaper feel (yes, complete with adorable snails!), while Pops offers a crisp, modern contrast. Together, they frame each block with loads of personality.

A Backing That Ties It All Together

The backing fabric is Seeds in Summer Sky from the Flowerland collection, and it was the perfect finishing touch. That soft, dreamy blue feels like a breath of fresh air and works beautifully with all the citrusy tones on the front. It’s calm but full of charm—like scattering seeds from those magical flower packets Melody Miller is known for.

Petal-Perfect Quilting Details

To bring it all together, I used the Petal Twist pantograph—it has such a fun, flowing motion that echoes the shape of the petals without distracting from the design. Sew Special Quilts quilted it in Sea Green Glide thread, which adds a subtle layer of texture while blending in just enough to let the fabrics really shine.
