A state and its celebrated flower… from wildflowers to orange blossoms to the traditional rose. These flowers embody the persona of its state. This is no truer than in the case of the Texas bluebonnet. This undeniable purplish-blue sunbonnet shaped petals, beautifully blanket pastures and dot the roadways each spring. This brings so much joy to my heart, because each time I see a bluebonnet I think of my Papaw and his involvement with planting wildflowers along the Texas highways for the Highway Department. In 1930 Texas was the first state in the nation to begin planting flowers along the state highways.
