Graphic Pineapple Quilt... featuring Blackout
There’s nothing like a dark, tonal background to make bright colors pop, and the Blackout collection by Riley Blake Designs does exactly that. With its subtle textures of stars, dots, and geometrics, the prints add richness and depth while keeping the focus on bold color. Paired with 16 Confetti Cotton solids in rainbow hues, the fabrics practically asked to be made into something graphic and bold.

Inspired by the Minis
For this project, I stitched up an oversized pineapple block, finishing at around 33" square. The design was inspired by the mini pineapple blocks shared by Alison Glass and Guicy Guice. Instead of keeping it small, I scaled the block way up. The result is a quilt that feels modern yet familiar, honoring the classic pineapple motif, just in an oversized dramatic way.

Playing with Scale and Color
Using the Blackout prints as the alternating “rings” of the pineapple allowed the Confetti Cotton rainbow to truly spectrum. The contrast naturally pulls your eye inward, radiating out like a vibrant spectrum. At 33" square, this quilt is versatile making a statement as wall art, or works beautifully over a table, or adds a bold pop of color folded across a couch.

A Quilt That Glows from the Inside Out
What I love most about this project is the balance between light and dark. The Blackout fabrics ground the design, while the rainbow solids bring movement and energy. Together, they create a striking quilt that feels both playful and graphic.
