Howdy... Texas Quilt Pattern... the cover quilt

I'm beyond excited to be sharing with you today, of all days, my newest quilt pattern Howdy... Texas. If you didn't know today, March 2nd, is Texas Independence Day. This day means a great deal to us Texans, it's when we officially declared our independence from Mexico and became the Republic of Texas. Texas is reach in history and I could explain more, but you're here for quilts, right? So, let's move onto all the details about the Howdy... Texas quilt pattern.

When I first saw the Hey Y'all fabric collection by Alli K. for Moda Fabrics, I knew I had to make a Texas themed quilt design. The Hey Y'all fabric collection wasn't your typical "classic" Texas fabric. Yes, it still has Bluebonnets, but there in a simpler black and white format. Which was perfect for me!

Howdy Texas Quilt Pattern Design Phase

Initially I did my research and looked around to see what other Texas quilt patterns were available. Upon my findings, I felt like the true Texas shape wasn't shining through. So, I began sketching and tweaking my design until I felt satisfied. This pattern was been my most challenging pattern to date. I've lost count with how many design phases I went through. There might be a few areas that don't show off the true Texas shape completely accurate, but there's only so much you can do with basic shapes, without getting really complex.

Speaking of those basic shapes, the Howdy... Texas involves; squares, rectangles, 4-patches, half-square triangles and half-rectangle triangles. The pattern is for a confident beginner that is ready to conquer those HRT's and it is fat-quarter friendly, so you can pick fabrics from your stash or get a new collection. Plus the quilt finishes at a large throw size of 68x68", making it the perfect size to snuggle under on our chilly Texas days.

Lastly, the Howdy... Texas quilt was quilted by Joanna Marsh of Kustom Kwilts, with the pantograph, Malachite. I really liked how the edge to edge design reminded me on a topographic map, as it felt prefect for this quilt pattern. For the place I call home, Texas holds a special place in my heart and the hearts of so many. We might joke that it's the largest state, but that's just because we're full of Texas pride.
