Introducing Mr Beary Crispin... from the Beary Bunch Block Series

My second favorite season has arrived, bringing cooler mornings, warmer colors, and more opportunities to gather with family and friends. Autumn has a way of making even the simplest moments feel a little more special, from crisp apples and colorful leaves to the familiar traditions that come with the changing season.

And this month's Beary Bunch Block Series is bringing a bit of that autumn charm to the sewing room!

October welcomes two new autumn-inspired pals, and first up is a cheerful fellow who's ready to make the most of apple-picking season.

Meet Mr Beary Crispin

With his pilgrim inspired hat, freshly picked green apple, and maple-leaf feet, Mr Beary Crispin is all dressed up for the autumn harvest.

His name was inspired by the Crispin apple, a green apple variety that felt like the perfect fit for this harvest loving fellow. And while his hat gives a little nod to Thanksgiving traditions, I wanted his overall design to celebrate the broader autumn season.

Of course, I couldn't resist giving him a few playful details. Those maple-leaf feet might just be one of my favorite parts.

Crispin's Color Palette

For Mr Beary Crispin, I chose a cheerful combination of Riley Blake Designs Confetti Cottons that brings together golden yellows, rich greens, and a few darker accents.

  • Bear Highlight: Cheddar
  • Bear: Daffodil
  • Accent A: Licorice (Hat)
  • Accent B: Cider (Hat Buckle and Apple Stem)
  • Accent C: Cotton (Hat Ribbon and Collar)
  • Accent D: Wasabi (Apple)
  • Accent E: Emerald City (Apple Leaf)
  • Background: Lagoon

I love how Daffodil and Cheddar give Crispin his warm, golden appearance, while Licorice adds a bold contrast to his hat. Wasabi and Emerald City bring that freshly picked apple to life, and Lagoon gives the entire design a colorful backdrop that feels a little unexpected for autumn.

Because who says fall has to be all orange, brown, and burgundy?

A Few Little Details

Like the other bears in the Beary Bunch Block Series, Mr Beary Crispin combines traditional piecing with the stitch and flip method.

His hat, apple, and maple-leaf feet give him plenty of personality, while the finished design maintains the bold, graphic style of the original Beary Bunch.

The block measures 20" × 35" finished, making it a fun seasonal wall hanging or a cheerful addition to your autumn decorating.
