I'm beyond excited to share with you today, my newest quilt pattern, Mood Swings. This fun and playful quilt pattern is a take on emotions, that we all experience from time to time. Whether we are sad, happy, mad or a little unsure.
The Mood Swings quilt pattern is beginner to confident beginner friendly. The pattern includes 4 different size options, from baby to full.
You can also get creative with expressing you emotions, as the Mood Swings quilt pattern also includes 3 different fabric requirement options; yardage, fat-quarter or combo versions.
Besides the common basic quilting knowledge of piecing and use of a 1/4" seam allowance. The blocks involve the stitch-and-flip technique.
Now that the quilt pattern details are out of the way, let's take a little look at the process of making the Mood Swings cover quilt.
I had recently purchased this wonderful black and white fabric, by E Bond for FreeSpirit Fabric, from the Glyphs Collection. I really liked the scribbling and tangling aspects the fabric had, much like our mind and emotions can be.
Since, I knew this was going to be the backing fabric, I then thought about the front fabrics. I wanted to use solids, but what colors? Something that represented happiness and anger! I didn't want to use the typical 'red' for anger, so I opted for a bright pink instead.
I ended up selecting the Kona Cotton solids in Honeysuckle (490) and Duckling (840), by Robert Kaufman Fabrics.
Then came the fun part of piecing the quilt blocks together and beginning to see the faces emerge.
Besides basic straight seams, the Mood Swings quilt pattern involves the Stitch and Flip technique. Here's all the little trimmed off corner fabric pieces.
Soon after the Mood Swings quilt top was complete!
Now I think was the hardest part, selecting the edge to edge pantograph. I ended up going with something spirally like the backing fabric. The pantograph is
Elle by Anne Bright Designs.
I look forward to seeing you express your emotions through the Mood Swings quilt!
