Utter Chaos Quilt... the cover quilt

If you are looking for the ultimate scrap, charm pack or layer cake friendly quilt pattern, then look no further, the Utter Chaos quilt pattern is simply that. This no waste quilt pattern is skilled for an advanced beginner that wants to challenge their piecing skills. Utter Chaos defies all rules (well maybe just a couple), and is nearly impossible to plan out fabric placement before constructing an almost completed block. The fun mix and match technique makes this quilt pattern take on an organic utterly chaotic scrappy appearance.

Without further ado, I'm beyond excited to be sharing my newest quilt pattern, Utter Chaos, with you today.

Sometime this summer the Fat Quarter Shop was hosting a challenge for making a quilt using nothing but charm packs. Being that I had just launched my last quilt pattern, Flitter Flutter, I wasn't quite ready to jump right into my next scheduled quilt pattern design. Instead, I took on the challenge and had some fun experimenting with charm pack pieces. That's when the Utter Chaos quilt pattern design came about spontaneously.

For the Fat Quarter Shop challenge, I decided to use a Ruby Star Society collection that I had been admiring but didn't have a quilt pattern to use it with. That collection was the Darlings 2 collaborative. Wanting to pair something nice with that Darlings collection, I selected another Ruby Star Society fabric collection, by Sarah Watts named Sugar. I thought the two collections complimented each other nicely.

After, I had completed the Fat Quarter Shop challenge, I loved the design so much that I decided to turn it into my next quilt pattern instead of the one I had planned out earlier in the year. 

So, I put in an order for more charm packs to make a large quilt top and began writing the instructions for the now Utter Chaos quilt pattern.

Once the quilt top was complete I then decided on which fabric to use for the backing. I couldn't resist the temptation of using the goldenrod bananas on that creamy background. There's just something oh so playful about them! 

When it came time to pick an edge to edge pantograph for this Utter Chaos quilt top I struggled. This quilt took the longest time for me to pick out a pantograph design that I liked. I ended up picking the BBP Paisley Circles 001 from Sweet Dreams Quilt Studio. I'm so glad it took me sometime to research pantograph designs because I'm really happy with the end results.
